一、教材内容分析
This unit is the first unit in the second volume of Grade 8 Go for it. This unit mainly focuses on the communicative function of “talking about health problems and accidents and giving advice”, and takes the modal verbs “should and shouldn’t ” as an example to further learn the usage of modal verbs for suggestions. In Section A, students can learn new words about body organs and new phrases about common health problems by various listening and speaking activities and tasks. Then students can read and analyze the article Bus Driver and Passengers Save an Old Man with these new words and phrases embedded in it, so that students can master the rules of modal verbs should/shouldn’t for suggestions and reflexive pronouns. Section B introduces new words and expressions about accidents. By listening and speaking activities, students can further talk about common accidents and know about some solutions. There is a reading material called He Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing in 2b. This story is about a climber who lost his arm because of accidents but  never gave up climbing. From this text, students can learn how to deal with accidents while doing sports, and foster the spirit of perseverance and never giving up. After reading, a writing activity follows with writing a conversation about health problems between a school nurse and students. Since students have got the background information and language points from previous activities, the topic of health problems which is close to students’ life can probably active students’ motivation for writing.
