Abstract
 
Cooperative learning is one of the teaching methods advocated by the contemporary. The new curriculum reform in China also advocates the development of students' self-learning ability and cooperative learning ability. Cooperative learning is a learning theory and strategy system in which students, in order to complete the common learning task, take group as the basic organization form, teachers and students, students and students, cooperate and help each other to complete the learning task. Cooperative learning is of great significance in the education situation in the new century. It meets the requirements of the new curriculum standards on English teaching in the new era and the requirements on students' quality and ability. How to organize students to carry out effective cooperative learning in teaching is one of the hot issues in primary and secondary schools.
The concept of cooperative learning was introduced to China in the 1970s.With the continuous in-depth research and development of the majority of scholars, cooperative learning has gradually become a common teaching method in primary and secondary education in China, and by the majority of teachers and students love. Through the field observation and research of cooperative learning, this paper analyzes the development status of cooperative learning in the current period and the existing problems that need to be improved. Firstly, the research status of cooperative learning at home and abroad is analyzed. Secondly, through field investigation and other forms of domestic learning cooperative learning, the author tries to make a detailed understanding, and the research object is Taicang No. 1 Primary School, Class 1 Grade 5. Thirdly, Through the analysis of the survey results, it is found that there are some problems in the process of cooperative learning, such as unbalanced differences in students' abilities, insufficient self-learning ability of students, and insufficient utilization of teaching resource. In the case of the problems above, the author provides some strategies, such as: respecting students' individual differences; understanding the students' learning levels; encouraging students to boldly ask questions; developing the students' ability of self-learning and cooperative learning; making full use of resources and integration etc. All of these strategies can improve the efficiency of primary school English classroom, make teachers and students efficiently use cooperative learning method and improve the learning efficiency.
