Abstract
Teacher talk is not only an important means for English teachers to fulfill teaching activities but also a significant tool for students to acquire a foreign language. However, only a few studies are concerned with the primary school classroom teacher talk, especially junior class. Therefore, based on the studies at home and abroad, this dissertation attempts to explore the relationship between teacher talk and students’ English learning effect.
This dissertation is divided into six chapters. Chapter One introduces the background, purpose and significance as well as the outline of this dissertation. Chapter Two and Three mainly deals with previous studies at home and abroad. Chapter Four introduces the design of the research. In Chapter Five and Six, issues about teacher talk are explored and studied with the data collection and analysis, four strategies are proposed to improve students’ English learning effect, e.g. controlling the amount of teacher talk, avoiding invalid directives, increasing referential questions and using proper feedback skills.
