一、教材内容分析
This unit is the third unit in the second volume of Grade 7 Go for it. This unit takes “How do you get to school?” as its central topic and revolves around “means of transportation”. In addition, this unit also mainly focuses on the communicative function of “talking about how to go somewhere”. It is closely related to our students’ daily life. Because our life cannot do without “going”, this unit introduces the main ways to describe people’s daily travel. Section A partly presents the situation where students get to school by different means of transportation. It brings students into a discussion about how to go to school: the time it takes, and the distance between home and school. In terms of grammar, students are required to master: How questions and their answers to talk about means of transportation, How long questions and their answers to talk about the time it takes to get to a place, and How far questions and answers to talk about the distance between two places. The emotional attitude hidden in this unit are closely related to environment awareness and the sense of punctuality. Section B continues the topic of means of transportation and adds the concept of “transfer” in the content, which enriches the context. In order to express the concept of “transfer”, the words representing bus station are included and the coordinating conjunction “then” are added to help students express the sequence of time. Reading, as the most important part of Section B, requires the cultivation of reading strategies, such as predicting discourse information, acquiring specific information and analyzing the structure of article. Besides, the reading passage is very suitable for cultivating students’ sense of gratitude. After knowing the students in one small village in China have to cross the river, students can more cherish their own living and learning conditions.
