一、教材内容分析

 

The teaching material is from Junior High School English book for grade seven. 

Unit 9, What does he look like? is in the second volume of Grade 7 Go for it. The core of this unit is to make students know how to describe the appearance of people, such as height, weight, hairstyle, facial features and so on. This topic is close to students’ daily life, so it can easily arouse students' interests in learning and make them be willing to participate in relevant activities.

This unit can be divided into four parts, so four lessons were designed--listening, grammar, reading and writing. Besides, I took the development of communicative skills into account, so I also designed several speaking activities. The important and difficult part of this unit focuses on getting students to use expressions they have mastered to describe others. Therefore, it is crucial for students to be able to use accurate and proper words to describe the appearance of people. After learning this Unit, students will master the key words, phrases and sentence patterns to describe others’ appearances. 

 

二、学习者特征分析

 

Students in Grade seven are in a sophisticated period. On the one hand, they are in the second period of Grade 7, so their foundational ability is enough to learn this unit. On the other hand, students are still in the basic stage despite they have studied in junior high school for half a year, so they may not be adept at using language properly and their learning process might be lack of patience.

Meanwhile, they display curiosity for the content of this unit. However, this curiosity may not come into its own due to the restriction of learning experience. Therefore, teacher should make use of flexible and diverse teaching activities to help students deepen language practice and develop good learning habits.
