摘要：因为莫言作品在西方大受好评，所以国内的学者不断以葛浩文翻译莫言小说的成功译作为切入点，以求为国内作家和作品提供经验借鉴，促进中国文学作品更好更多地走出去。本论文是以《丰乳肥臀》为例，分析葛浩文翻译中的文化缺省与文化补偿现象。文化缺省是汉语作品英译中普遍存在的一种现象。它指的是本土读者所熟知的文化知识的缺失。因此，目的语读者在阅读时，需要通过内容的补充来理解不同的文化补偿策略。通过对文化缺省与文化补偿在《丰乳肥臀》中的例子的分析，本论文认为葛浩文对该本小说的英译是成功的，其英译本在国际上非常受欢迎就是最好的证明。葛浩文在翻译时会直译以此保留原文的美，或者就是使用不同的补偿策略对文化缺省进行相关的补偿措施。就如何处理文化翻译这方面，值得我们借鉴学习。
