中文摘要：时代的发展和我国经济的发展促使对外交流的需要增加，作为世界官方语言之一，英语学习越来越有必要，也越来越重要。英语作为初中阶段的一门重要的必修课程，同时也是基础课程，国家教育部对初中英语教学有着更高的要求，所以英语教学必须严格贯彻新课程改革，全面推进学生的素质教育。

本文开篇简要介绍了自主学习的发展过程，概念，特征及其重要意义。结合我国初中英语教学实施新课改的背景下，本文收集整理了相关文献，通过分析目前中学英语课堂现状，发现大多数中学生严重缺乏自主学习的能力。针对导致自主学习能力缺乏的问题，本文通过列举相关的教学例子并提出了培养中学生自主学习能力的有效策略，如确立学生的主体地位，转换教师的角色和加强学生的合作学习等等。
