Abstract
English reading ability is a very important part of English language skills. Although the cultivation of reading ability has been paid more and more attention, the process of cultivating reading ability is a little monotonous. Therefore, the key issue is to provide better learning methods to arouse students’ interest in reading and obtain positive reading experience. As a new teaching medium, picture books come into being. They can not only promote intellectual development, but also carry out personality education. Application of picture books can help students build basic learning ability more effectively, help students express their emotions, and thus enhance their interest in learning. This paper mainly discusses the influence of English picture books on students’ reading ability and the cultivation of reading literacy, analyzes application significance and strategies of integrating English picture books into junior high school English reading teaching, and makes "reading" become "pleasant reading", so as to cultivate students’ comprehensive linguistic competence.
