Abstract
Nominalization refers to the process in which any element of a clause is transformed into a language unit with the syntactic function of a noun or noun phrase. It is frequently used in English broadcast news. This paper will analyze the functions of nominalization in English broadcast news from the following aspects: the increase of background information content, the improvement of timeliness, the enhancement of objectivity, and the change of information focus in sentences; it also discusses the translation of nominalization structure at the lexical level from literal translation, conversion and amplification, discusses the translation of nominalization structure at the phrase level from subject-predicate structure and verb-object structure, and studies the translation methods of literal translation and splitting from the sentence level, which is conducive to ensuring the accuracy and objectivity of information transmission between source language and target language in English broadcast news, enhancing the cohesion of discourse, and making the translation of nominalization fit the characteristics of English broadcast news. The study of this paper has some enlightenment on the translation of nominalization.
