一、教材内容分析  

The teaching material is from Junior High School English book for grade eight. 

The language goal of this unit is to enable students to discuss recent events and experiences with others. The topic of unit 8 is meaningful and valuable, and it is of great benefit to students to apply the content of this topic to communicate with others in their daily life. There are six famous books referred at the beginning of this unit (Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, Treasure Island, Olive Twist, Robinson Crusoe, Tom Sawyer), so this not only tests students’ knowledge accumulation but also cultivates students’ interest and curiosity. The lessons in section A and section B include listening lesson, speaking lesson, reading lesson and writing lesson. In addition, there is a grammatical point to learn --- summarizing, and this will test students’ learning ability. 

二、学习者特征分析

The students in grade eight have already mastered a certain amount of vocabularies and some sentence patterns. Also, because they have learned English for five years, they have grasped some basic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. 

In addition, by interacting with students, the teacher can conclude that they can understand most of teachers’ oral instructions. Therefore, when the teacher organizes different kinds of activities, students can keep track with the teacher and participate in the activities. Furthermore, students can find proper remedies to deal with some difficulties, such as how to predict the meaning of a new word, how to extract useful information from a passage and so on. 

However, puberty is a factor that cannot be ignored in this period. Students are eager for more recognition and respect from parents and teachers, and each student hopes to show his best to prove himself successfully. Therefore, opportunities must be given to every student so that his strengths and potentials can be noticed. In addition, because every students has his own learning style and personality, it is inevitable to have some conflicts between the teacher and students, so the teacher must not be authority and try to put himself in students’ shoes. In this way, students can cooperate with the teacher to achieve ultimate objectives.
