中文摘要：随着工业革命的发展, 英国自由主义经济体制的确立，英国文学欣欣向荣，现实主义文学成为社会文化创作的主流，涌现出大批优秀的作家以及作品。其中狄更斯与萨克雷更是批判现实主义的文学大家，他们的文学贡献对英国文坛乃至世界文化都产生了深远的影响。本论文以现实主义文学产生的背景作为开端，简要描述了现实主义文学产生的经济，政治背景以及科学和文化对现实主义文学产生的影响。通过对世界名著《雾都孤儿》和《名利场》的人物角色和故事情节的分析论述了狄更斯与萨克雷的写作特点。同为十九世纪现实主义文学的代表作家，通过对比他们写作风格的异同，让人们了解现实主义文学以及十九世纪的工业社会，进而唤起人们心中更深刻的人道主义思想。
