Abstract
 
This research takes a total of 95 students in Class 5 and Class 8, Grade 7 in Nanjing Jinling Huiwen School as the research object. According to the current research situation of errors and corrections in middle school English class, this paper brings forward the following three major research questions: 1) what major oral errors do students make in middle school English class? 2) what are the causes for middle school students’ oral errors? 3) what are the main oral error correction strategies employed by English teachers in class?
By means of classroom observation, interviews as well as analysis of the related research, this paper brings forward the following three major research findings: 1) there are four major kinds of oral errors in middle school English class: lexical errors, phonetic errors, grammatical errors and pragmatic errors; 2) there are three major kinds of causes for middle school students’ oral errors: interlingual interference, intralingual interference and some other causes; 3) there are three major types of oral error correction strategies employed by the teachers in class: direct oral correcting strategy, suggesting strategy and praising and correcting strategy.
This research can help to enhance middle school students’ oral English expression ability and to enhance the efficiency of English teaching in middle school.
